Sebastian Thrun *
Sebastian runs a small group of Google engineers focused on entrepreneurial innovation in areas outside Google's fields of business, with a strong focus on innovative hardware. Previously, Sebastian ran a Google Maps project and helped with Google Streetview. Prior to joining Google, Sebastian was a professor of computer science and electrical engineering at Stanford University, after serving as an associate professor of computer science at Carnegie Mellon University.
Sebastian received his BSc from the University of Hildesheim, and his MSc and PhD from the University of Bonn, Germany. He is member of the National Academy of Engineering (US) and the Academy of Sciences (Germany). Together with Google's founders, Sebastian was featured as one of the "50 smartest people in tech" by Fortune. He was listed as one of "50 science and technology leaders" by Scientific American, and as one of the "Brilliant Ten" by Popular Science. Thrun co-authored 11 books and over 350 scientific publications, and he has received many scientific awards. Most notably, his team won the DARPA Grand Challenge, a robot race organized by the US Government.
